My name is Carlos Luis Pujol, and I’m a filmmaker from Cuba, residing in the Los Angeles area. I have done a few things in this life, but my passion for storytelling, movies, and the process of making them has remained intact since I can remember.

Currently I’m getting my Master of Fine Arts in Cinematography, at New York Film Academy (I will graduate in July 12th!) -I’m also working on some indie projects and student films. I have experience with 35mm (Panaflex, Panavision, Arri 535), 16mmm and Super16mm, Red Cameras (Scarlet, MX, Epic), Arri Alexa, Canon 5D and 7D, Panasonic HMC 150…

One of my Favorite movies of all time: Amelie Poulain, witty story and an awesome cinematography

I work hard and I do the longest hours -and I get the shots done, and some of you know how difficult things can get in a production.  No matter what, you will always see me walking around the set doing stuff… or searching for the light meter 🙂 (I get bored if I’m not doing something). Also, I have been told I have a good eye for composition.

I really like the work of Christopher Doyle, and my favorite movies are “Amelie” and “Blade Runner”. There are more, but these two have stood the test of time, and they have an awesome balance between story and cinematography.

Also, I drink a lot of coffee… just so you know 😉

My Resume in a few words:

  • Graduated from… (a pompous name in Spanish follows) “Arte de los Medios de Comunicación Audiovisual, Especialidad en Dirección de Cine, Radio y TV, Universidad de la Habana”. Iit basically means a BA in Filmmaking, with a Major in Directing (5 years, a lot of books, and more theory than the recommended amount) FAMCA ISA Instituto Superior de Arte
  • Radio script writer (yep, back in Cuba that still exists). I did some radio directing too.
VEF 206, a kind of outdated radio receptor that still works in Cuba :)

  • From my geeky years: I’m a Chess Master and before the Filmmaking bug infected me, I used to live by teaching chess to kids and adults 🙂 It helped me get through all these years here in the US.
